AllyKin Transparency Report

Reviewed by the AllyKin Editorial TeamCMS data via Medicare.gov Care CompareLast updated: January 2025Methodology: How we research and rank →

We publish this report so families, journalists, and policymakers can verify how we operate — unlike commission-based referral giants that profit from placement fees.

Senate investigation context (2024)

The U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging opened a formal probe into A Place for Mom for allegedly steering families toward facilities with safety violations while earning $3,500–$12,000+ placement commissions. Washington Post analysis found more than a third of "Best of Senior Living" picks in 28 states had recent neglect citations.

AllyKin was built as the verify-first alternative: CMS star ratings, state inspection lookups, and Medicaid screeners before any matching. See our A Place for Mom alternative and Verify a Community tool.

Our commitment

  • Families never pay AllyKin for matching or research tools
  • We do not sell pay-to-rank placement in community search results
  • Government data (CMS, state inspections) ranks before marketing claims
  • Email-first matching — no call-center bombardment

Texas SB 1383 alignment

Texas law now requires referral agents to disclose commissions. We support this standard nationally. Read our Texas SB 1383 family guide for questions to ask any placement service.

How we rank communities

The AllyKin Safety Score combines CMS star ratings, deficiency severity, license status, and survey recency. Methodology details: /how-we-rank.

AllyKin Verified partner program

Communities may apply for AllyKin Verified status by committing to fee disclosure, accurate Medicaid information, and no price inflation for referred families. Verified status is not pay-to-rank — it is pay-to-disclose-and-commit.
